About the Australian National Composition Competition
The National Board of ABODA are proud to announce the return of the Australian National Composition Competition. It is vision of the National Board that this composition competition will stimulate the creation of many important new compositions for developing wind band and string orchestra.
The winning compositions of ANCC 2024 will receive prize money and a world premiere performance at ANBOC 2024.
The 2024 ANCC Adjudication Committee will consider two new works for the award:
Wind band compositions of a grade level of 3 - 4
String Orchestra of a grade level 1.5 - 2.5
Prizes
Significant prize money for both composition types is on offer.
The Wind Band composition prize money is $4,000 for the level 3-4 work.
The String Orchestra composition money is $2,500 for the level 1.5-2.5 work.
World Premiere Performance at ANBOC 4-7 July 2024 in Melbourne
Eligibility
To enter, applicants must be;
An Australian Citizen
Currently residing in Australia
Submission Criteria
The composition/score submitted must;
Be a new, original composition never before performed or published
Be no longer than ten (10) minutes duration
Use the following instrumentation:
Wind Band: Piccolo, Flutes, Oboe/s Bassoon/s,, B-flat Clarinets (3 parts), Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophones (2 parts), Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpets (at least 3 parts), French Horns (2-4 parts), Trombones (3 parts), Euphoniums, Tubas, , Percussion. The score may also include Piano and/or other keyboard instruments.
Optional instrumentation may include: Cor Anglais, E-Flat Clarinet, Contra Bass Clarinet, Contra Bassoon, String Bass.
Works for solo instruments with wind accompaniment are also eligible for consideration
String Orchestra: 1st Violin, 2nd Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
Optional instrumentation may include: 3rd Violin
There is not a minimum length for entries, nor is there a limit on the number of movements. The number of works submitted by a composer is limited to three per year, and each entry must be sent separately. ABODA National Board members are not allowed to submit a work for consideration.

Instructions for submission
Email your entry to secretary@abodanational.com.au AND cc abodanational@gmail.com by the due date.
In the body of your email, you must include:
Your full name
Your contact number
Your home address
Each entry must include a PDF copy of the score with a title page stipulating:
Composition title and duration
Composer’s name, address and contact number.
Program or conductors notes are optional
You are required to submit a MIDI audio file with your entry. This must be included with submission of your PDF score.
Please Note: All composer details will be removed for adjudication. The adjudication will be a “blind adjudication”. Only the chairperson of the committee will have knowledge of the composer information. The chairperson of the committee is not on the adjudication panel.
The Australian National Composition Competition adjudication committee will comprise of:
Wind Band (To be confirmed for 2024)
String Orchestra (To be confirmed for 2024)
